Our Spring Event will be held on May 10, 2014, 9:00 a.m. at Sweet Briar College. Pre-Run activities will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the Athletic fields by the Train Station and Caboose at the end of Guion Parking Lot on the beautiful campus of Sweet Briar College (click to take a Virtual tour of the campus and to see the "Dairy Loop" course).
Run Packets for Participants (and registered family members) of this season's Girls on the Run teams will be delivered to their Coaches. Unless otherwise designated, all other Run Packets may be picked up on Friday, May 9th from 10:00-5:00 p.m. at the downtown location of Highpeak Sportswear (corner of 10th and Main Street). Packets may be picked up the day of the event at Sweet Briar College beginning at 7:30 a.m.
The Celebration 5K course loops around the stunning campus of Sweet Briar College. Setting off with a Cross-Country "wave" Start, the runners will head from the Athletic fields towards “Daisy’s Monument” and the stables, passing the horse pastures heading through the Student Parking lot to Chapel Road, and then down to Physical Plant Road to circle back from Elijah Road to the main road of the campus and back to Guion Parking lot and the Train Station. This is a somewhat challenging course with some hills; we encourage hill training to meet this challenge. To take a virtual tour of the course, click on the link below and select "Dairy Loop" from the "Locations" drop-down menu in the upper left corner of the map.
The Girls on the Run Celebration 5K will happen Rain or Shine! Participants should dresses in layers appropriate to the weather conditions. While every effort will be made to work through difficult weather conditions, if it can be done safely, in cases of extreme weather the event may be cancelled and will not be rescheduled and refunds will not be issued.
Due to limited campus parking, all 5K participants and their families must use the Satellite Parking lots at Amherst County High School and ride the Shuttle Buses to and from the Start/Finish Line at Sweet Briar College. Handicap parking will be available in Guion Parking lot (closest to the Athletic Fields). Cars must have a handicap tag unless otherwise arranged. Buses will provide shuttle rides to and from the parking lots in a continuous loop until the start of the Run. Once the Run starts the roads will closed and no traffic will be permitted until the final runner/walker clears the area. Once the runners have cleared the main road (approximately 9:40) the buses will start making runs back to Amherst County High School for those who may need to leave early. All buses will continue to shuttle between Sweet Briar College and the High School until everyone has been returned. A large number of people are anticipated and traffic will be somewhat congested. Please plan accordingly.
